At Honour Early Learning, the safety, wellbeing, and protection of children is at the heart of every decision we make. As part of our ongoing commitment to child safety our Centres utilise CCTV technology to support safe, transparent, and well-supervised learning environments for children, families, and team members.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
Why do we have CCTV in our Centres?
CCTV forms part of our broader safety, security, and safeguarding framework. It provides an additional layer of support alongside our supervision practices, policies, procedures, educator training, and child-safe culture.
As part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, we are currently enhancing and expanding our CCTV program across our Centres. These upgrades are designed to reduce blind spots, improve visibility across key areas, and further strengthen safety and security practices.
Our enhancement program is being introduced in phases, including:
- Upgrading and repositioning external cameras
- Expanding camera coverage across shared spaces and learning environments
- Ensuring all newly developed Centres are equipped with interior CCTV systems from opening
How does CCTV support child safety?
CCTV helps support child safety by providing an additional safeguarding measure within our Centres. While active supervision by educators remains our primary focus, CCTV can assist by:
- Supporting incident reviews and investigations where required
- Providing greater visibility across Centre environments
- Reinforcing accountability, transparency, and consistent practices
- Assisting leadership teams to respond accurately to concerns or incidents
- Supporting a culture focused on child safety and wellbeing
CCTV does not replace educator supervision, relationships, or engagement with children. Rather, it complements the strong safety systems already in place across our services.
How does CCTV support team safety and wellbeing?
CCTV also supports our educators and team members by providing an objective record should incidents, complaints, misunderstandings, or safety concerns arise.
It contributes to a culture of professionalism, accountability, and support while helping ensure our environments remain safe and respectful for everyone within our community.
Where are cameras located?
Cameras are typically located in:
- Centre entrances and exits
- External areas including car parks and playgrounds
- Shared internal spaces such as hallways and common areas
- Learning environments and classrooms as part of our ongoing upgrade program
We carefully consider privacy in the placement and use of all cameras. Cameras are not installed in private areas such as bathrooms, staff rooms, or meeting rooms. Privacy masking technology is also utilised where appropriate to maintain dignity and privacy within sensitive areas.
Who can access CCTV footage?
Access to CCTV footage is strictly restricted to authorised personnel only, including approved senior leadership and designated safety roles.
Footage is only accessed for legitimate and appropriate purposes, such as:
- Safety or safeguarding concerns
- Incident or complaint investigations
- Compliance or regulatory requirements
- Requests from authorised authorities such as regulatory bodies or law enforcement agencies
Centre Managers may also receive secure after hours notifications relating to external camera activity through protected systems.
How long is CCTV footage retained?
CCTV footage is generally retained for approximately 30 days. In circumstances where an incident, investigation, or regulatory matter arises, relevant footage may be securely retained for a longer period where required.
How is CCTV footage stored and protected?
All CCTV footage is stored securely using protected systems with strict access controls and safeguards in place. Measures are implemented to prevent unauthorised access, sharing, misuse, or disclosure of footage.
Our data management and storage practices align with applicable privacy legislation and best practice information security standards to ensure information remains protected and confidential.
