What is School Readiness?
At Honour Early Learning, school readiness means supporting children to develop the practical, social, emotional, and academic skills needed to confidently transition into Prep and formal schooling.
Ready for What's Next
While early literacy and numeracy are important, school readiness is about much more than academic learning. It is about helping children feel confident in themselves, comfortable within group learning environments, and capable of managing the routines and expectations of school life.
Our Kindergarten Program focuses on building key school readiness skills including:
School Readiness
Children learn how to:
- Build friendships and work collaboratively with peers
- Take turns, share, and participate in group experiences
- Develop empathy, confidence, and respectful communication
- Navigate social situations and build positive relationships
Emotional Readiness
Children are supported to:
- Develop resilience and independence
- Manage emotions and self-regulate
- Build confidence when trying new things
- Separate confidently from parents and caregivers
- Adapt to routines, transitions, and structured learning environments
Academic Readiness
Children are introduced to foundational learning concepts through play and intentional teaching, including:
- Early literacy skills such as letter recognition, storytelling, phonics, and vocabulary development
- Early numeracy concepts including counting, patterns, sorting, measuring, and problem-solving
- Critical thinking, inquiry, and creativity
- Listening, concentration, and following instructions
Physical Readiness
Children also develop the physical skills needed for school participation through experiences that strengthen:
- Fine motor skills for drawing, writing, cutting, and self-help tasks
- Gross motor coordination, balance, and movement
- Independence in routines such as mealtimes, toileting, and managing belongings
Our Teachers intentionally create learning experiences that help children feel confident and excited about starting school.
