Child Protection & Safeguarding Commitment

At Honour and Plaîs Early Learning, our Centres, educators and staff are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. We honour our responsibilities and statutory duty of care by implementing the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and embedding the Queensland Child Safe Standards to prevent and respond to allegations of child abuse.

We uphold a zero tolerance for child abuse and actively raise awareness about the importance of child safety, protecting children who have experienced or may be at risk of significant harm, abuse or neglect—both within our Service and the broader community. In doing so, we act with Respect, Nurture, and Trust as the foundation of all interactions.

We ensure all staff, volunteers and students engaged with our Service are suitable to work with children and young people through rigorous recruitment and screening
processes, including Working with Children Checks. We uphold our professional responsibility to comply with the Child Protection Policy, mandatory reporting requirements, and the Reportable Conduct Scheme to safeguard children from physical, sexual, emotional and psychological abuse and neglect.

We are dedicated to promoting cultural safety and creating an inclusive environment for all children and young people, including First Nations Peoples, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children with disability, and children of all gender identities and expressions. We believe all children are unique, deserving of Excellence in care and protection, and have the right to be safeguarded from discrimination, harm and abuse.

We support the ongoing professional development of employees to maintain clear boundaries between appropriate and inappropriate behaviour and to strengthen their ability to recognise, respond to and report situations of abuse and neglect. We work in alignment with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and actively educate children on their right to be safe. We empower children to voice their concerns, opinions and ideas on matters that affect them and provide clear guidance on what to do if they feel unsafe. Our policies and procedures are informed by the voices of children, reflecting our commitment to Nurture, Respect, and Trust in building child safe environments.

We value open and regular communication with families, carers and the community, inviting their input into the review of our policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement of our child safe practices. Together, we demonstrate Pride in fostering safe, inclusive and protective environments where every child can flourish.
